The Frazzled Frau now has a companion elist!
Having been part of several email lists that covered general and specific areas of garb, I became increasingly aware of the need for a group that would allow discussion of women's german garb. There are other groups that do focus on german garb, and the purpose of this list is not to be a rival. But there are many questions people ask me via email about dresses specifically depicted on this site.
It became logical to allow a more open forum to ask these questions, especially as others may have the same queries.
As I pondered this, other ideas and queries were raised by other people with a similar interest. We decided to pool together our ideas and expand the elist for this site into a slightly more encompassing group.

So what will the group specifically cover?

15th and 16th century costume from "Northern Europe" (Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland Denmark etc.). Those boundaries being established, it is perfectly appropriate to discuss costume development from earlier and later periods, and influences from and into other countries.

We will also discuss all kinds of recreations. Influences in movies and art as well as comic books, for theatre and living history. As long as it clearly shows an influence in dress from Northern Europe you can discuss it (of course if you don't know, feel free to ask as well, I'm sure people will have ideas on that too;) .)

The rules

This list was started by several people to accommodate less restricted discussions regarding costume recreation for the period described. We would like to treat this group democratically and in general have a hands off philosophy regarding moderation.

That being said, please try to keep the following in mind:

Constructive criticism of garments produced by members on the list is acceptable. Please be sensitive and encouraging. If you wish for critiques this will be a safe place to ask, we will not accept any intolerance or willful disrespect of people's work.

Please be respectful of international copyright law. Please do not post pictures or translations of text which are not in the public domain. People doing original research work very hard, please do not devalue it by violating their rights. Please ask for permission-it is sometimes granted! If you want to share privately (i.e. offlist) that is your business. We as moderators do not want to be responsible for condoning illicit behavior.

Please don’t post questions without searching for the topic first in the messages. Then if you don’t find what you want, ask away!

Please don’t flame online! If you find the blood rushing to your head while reading a post this is a good signal to take it off list.

We will remind people of this if necessary PRIVATELY. If people continue to abuse others, we will take stronger action.
